Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

What is SEO?

SEO (search engine optimisation) is a long term digital marketing technique that helps websites rank on search engines such as Google. SEO has been relevant since search engines came around in the early 2000’s as websites were competing to rank for certain search terms, otherwise known as “keywords”.

How does SEO work?

There are 4 core elements to SEO:

  1. On-page SEO
  2. Off-page SEO
  3. Technical SEO
  4. Content

1. On-Page SEO

On-Page SEO is how well your website is set up on the website itself – essentially everything that you can control. This includes your Heading Tags, Title Tags, Meta Descriptions, ALT Tags, etc. This would include adding in relevant keywords onto your website to help rank for certain keywords such as “SEO in Kildare”, “SEO in Dublin” in our case. 2. Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO is the SEO work that happens off your website – link building, social media traffic, etc. Backlinks are a huge part of SEO and essentially serve as an online testimonial for your website or its relevant page or blog post. “Link juice” from backlinks will transfer from the original website to your website if the original website has allowed the link to be “do-follow”. Anyways, before you get bored, essentially what happens on other websites can positively or negatively impact how your website ranks on Google. Off-page SEO takes up a large portion of SEO pricing as good quality backlinking is not cheap. 

3. Technical SEO

Technical SEO involves making your website fast, adding schema markup on your pages, submitting sitemaps to Google so they index your site as well as other fun stuff! This can get tricky but it’s essential that it’s done properly as it’s Google’s way of understanding your sites architecture, as well as other core vitals.

4. Content

Content is king! SEO is a crowded place and with AI coming into the mix, its an ever changing game with many variables. One thing remains constant however, humans prefer to read content from humans, not robots. Writing relevant content for your website and industry is crucial.

What's the difference between SEO and PPC?

SEO is getting organic traffic on Google from unpaid search. PPC is paying for clicks onto your website. SEO is a long term strategy where results can take months to come through, as for PPC is instant, however there is no lasting rankings from PPC, when your campaign is over, clicks will stop coming through.
